Assignment 01 – Portraits Concept 1
Description
A series of studio portraits using your fellow students as subject. The series should have a clear concept.
Plan
“Defined” – Who we are is, in part, defined by who surround us. On the other hand, we ourselves also partly define the people who surround us.
This idea, I would like to capture as follows: A series of portraits of just the eyes shown, with in the eyes the reflection (silhouette) of myself. Here's an example of what this would look like:
Daniël Goldman – Eyes |
As it turned-out, however, instead of photographing our own concept, we had to photograph someone else's. I got to photograph Anouk's concept, where the subjects decide for themselves where and how they will stand in front of the camera. The camera is in a fixed position, in front of an evenly lit neutral wall. The idea behind this is to see how we, as photographers who normally stand behind the camera, respond in front of the camera.

Description
A series of location portraits using a clear concept.
Plan

This will be a series of portraits of different “bosses” in their office/work environment. “Bosses” in this respect includes everyone from the CEO of an international company to the manager of a local branch, to the owner of single-person company.

Assignment 03 – Self Portrait
Description
Create a self portrait of how you would like to be seen by the outside world, and one of how you would not like to be seen.
Plan
After a few tries at different angles and the feedback they invited, I finally settled on the self portraits as shown below.
Results
Self Portrait How I want to be seen Basically, I just want to be seen as “me”, hence this picture without thrills, poses and what not. |
Self Portrait How I do not want to be seen The image should speak for itself: I don't want to be seen as pathetic, alone, small, afraid, etc… |
Assignment 04 – Essay
